My brother Brooks and I ate with mother.
My brother asked her how many children she has?; she said,"five."
He acted hurt and said that kind of left him out since he's number six.

Glad you could spend time with her! I don't think she could disown him too easily - there is a family resemblance!
That's funny. I hope he didn't take it personally. Do you think she was kidding? Or just forgot.
I think she really forgot she had 8 kids. She has a hard time with conversation now.
I still talk about all the kids and tell her what each one is doing and I get the feeling that she doesn't know what I 'm talking about at all.
I'm number 5 too, had some of that probably in different ways. Your bro can handle it, he doesn't look like a cry baby.

Par for the course- many seniors need to run through names in their mind, when asked how many children they have.
mom has 8 kids to run through.
