  • Oooo, pretty...

    ryc over at Frank's...
I am shocked... You do not look old enough to have been around when pearl harbor was bombed!

    • I wasn't I just like pulling Frank's legs lol
I'm 62 and mom was in high school and dad quit to join the brotherhood but soon left to join the army.

  • I agree with the comment above! When I read that comment. . . that you were already married when that happened, I about went into shock! You look way to young to have been around then!!
I was going to say: I wasn't around then; my parents hadn't even met yet. You look lots younger than my mom, and she doesn't look her 89 years.
I was then going to say: But then neither were you.

    • lol I'm 62yr old but I like to repeat one of my pts. stories. LOL I was teasing Frank.
my parents meet during WW2 like a lot of couples.

  • I don't remember. I was just a kid.
My husband remembers. He's a year older than me. He was on his way home from church with his folks.

    • that is something you would remember if you were old enough.
My mom was in high school and dad almost finished high school and went into the brotherhood but he soon left to join the army.

  • Jill -- I was one year old when Pearl Harbor was bombed, and I think I'm older than you! Was that your mom's story you told on Frank's site? Or perhaps it was when the VietNamese war began?

My parents were in MN listening to the NY Phil concert -- Daddy volunteered for the army the next day, and was stationed in Santa Barbara. He left the country the next summer for 3-1/2 years, and we stayed put!

That's a great shot of Cleburne -- when was it taken?

    • LOL I like to pull Franks' legs.
Well, all the years of being in a nurse I would ask the pts. where they were when Pearl Harbor was bombed and that is one I liked.
Daddy was in the brotherhood fixing to take final vows when the war broke out and he joined the army.

Did I tell you about at the antique mall I asked a young man about 12yr old if he knew what day today was? and he was shy and I said,"Pearl Harbor was bombed today." He said,"again!" and we all laughed cause it was so cute.

My hubby said to tell you it has been 23 all day but just went up at 5pm to 25 degrees. We have two inches of ice on the ground but thank God we still have power.

  • Love the story about the 12-year-old -- so innocent! It's been in the mid-50's here, but i've been seeing news stories about your ice storms -- stay warm!

    • I saw some of the talk shows made fun of your cold front and how it's nothing compared to the weather in the rest of the country.
When my brother says he had to turn on his heater to get the chill out of the house and then he says he turns it off we laugh.
My little dog Sophie is my lap dog and she doesn't like it and runs out the doggie door and comes running back in asap and our blue heeler herding dog just sits on the 2 inches of ice and surveys her yard. LOL

  • My cousin said that a lot of her friends in Plano were without power - and the temps are soooo cold! I hope you are staying safe and warm!

    • I might have told you that we are so blessed cause the mile wide tornado that came through out town in May 15 took down our mature trees. It was so odd to look out from our porch and not see trees in our landscape anymore but it is what allowed us to have power here in Cleburne,Texas.

  • I was 8 years old and in my parents store. I remember the day vividly.

    • yes, I think I told you that you must be the same age as my mom's brother Fredrick cause I remember a photo of him in a army coat and dress hat and he looked so funny cause it was so big on him but i'm sure he bugged the relatives till he could put it on.

  • Ha!! I knew it!! I kept telling my husband that I was sure that you were not much older than I am, and he said, "Think about it, Carolyn!"
I told him that I had been thinking about it, and there was NO WAY that you could be anywhere nearly as old as you were saying!
LOL!! You and Frank are so funny ... even funnier with your back and forth joking! :-D

  • I was 2 but didn't hear about it then....I do remember the blackouts, though a couple of years later. We lived in Cleveland at the time.

    • I wasn' really born till 1951 but I like to tease Frank.
I remember a lot more about WW2 the I should since our parents and extended family talked about it when I was little.
I remember the scratchy wool brown/green army blankets and dad giving us a kiss at night and tucking us in. I always associated the wool and dad's whiskers with WW2.

  • lol - You are funny. :-P

  • I guess I was five and I remember my uncle and father discussing the news about Pearl Harbor and who might now be drafted, what might become rationed and other sacrifices we would have to make because of the war.
Oh, you asked about trips- my next will be to AZ when I hope to see a new baby boy (grandson number 2)

  • I wasn't even a glint in my Daddy's eye.
