  • Can't unclaim a claim

    IMG_0806

    Yes, my car.

It's $517 and my deductible is $500. My hubby and son both got mad at me,"you can't unclaim it now."

I backed into a parked car across the street that belonged to a fence worker. I told the labored.

I didn't know what to do and went to the ins. company.

  • I am sorry for you, Jill . This is really upsetting . But this may happen to everyone .

  • Sorry, Jilly. I handed hundreds of these kind of accidents as a claim adjustor. Bummer.

    • my son says to go ahead and get my car fixed cause I'm going to have to get it done anyway and it doesn't matter if it's 500-$1500 that I made a claim so when I get it done and it's over $517 the ins. company will pickup the tab. I said ok,I think I was more hurt that hubby and son both yelled at me.

  • We had just a scuff on a bumper and it was over $600 to fix - I'd ignore the men and just do the right thing!

    • my son said that when you make a claim it doesn't matter if it's $517 or $1500. That I don't know how much it's going to cost after it's fixed. So to cross that bridge when you cross it. I think he's right.

  • I'm sorry. It so hard to always know the best thing to do.

  • I would have done the same thing; I don't know how much it costs to fix things on a car, and it's better to be honest. I'm sure the menfolk are just worried about you, but thankfully it wasn't a bad accident. :)

    • my hubby hollered and then the next day my son did. They are so much alike. My hubby said,"Phil was really yelling at you." I didn't tell him that he didn't get as loud as you. LOL

  • When my car had 2K miles on it, the garage door scratched the rear bumper pretty badly -- just a scratch, and no other damage. I was hurt that I did something so stupid, but decided that the door dings and other bumps that most cars eventually get didn't matter any more -- and the scratch is still there!

    • I thought it would be over $500 and my son said,"well, it might be; just go ahead and get it fixed and whatever it turns out to be the ins. will pick up what's over the deductible.

  • Awwww, so sorry to see this. The main thing is, you are okay.

  • I did that once - spent $500 out of a $1500 repair of a leased vehicle, but then found out that my lease payments covered $2000 of damage with no deductible. Or should I say "de-DUH-ctible."

    • I got my car when I retired and paid cash. Did you get the money back? with my luck -it would be no! so must have been you, too.

  • A good insurance agent would probably tell you to go ahead and fix it up and not claim so that it won't go on your insurance record. Too bad that hubby and son yelled at you. What did they think? you did it on purpose?

    • I can't unclaim that I hit the parked car since I did and was honest and told the person. You couldn't see a scratch on his car but he just wants $.The family saw his car and it was a junky car with so many dents that we couldn't see a scratch cause they were all rusted.
